Mk3 dual fan swap

Some people have said that the mk3 dual fan shroud wont fit on the mk2 radiator and you need the setup from a b3 or b4 passat. well im here to show you that you dont need anything more then a mk3 fan shroud and a way to cut the metal and a way to attach the hose end.

first things first here is a pic of it mounted on the mk2 radiator after the cuts and bend were made.

I didnt get many pics while i was doing the cutting but it was pretty easy. just cut the bottom off right where it curves. then place it on the radiator(bolt it to the bosses on the sensor end. ill get into bolting the other end when i go get more pics) and mark where the bottom of the radiator is. cut the sides off from your last cut to the line you just marked(shouldnt be more than two inches) and bend it at the line like so. it wont be perfect but no one will see it once its installed. trust me its hidden  for now im using zip ties on the hose end to hold it on. only reason being the mk2 fan was missing both bolts on that side so i need to dig through my parts stash and find some.

after getting the core support in i realized it wasnt quite fitting right. it ended up being the piece of the fan shroud that was bent under the radiator was holding the radiator up. cut it off flush with the bottom of the radiator and it dropped right in with no further issues.

other then cutting off the bottom the only other issue i ran into was the passenger side mounting points dont line up. so i rigged a temp fix until i figure something out. this is stainless wire poked through the bolt hole and between two fins, wrapped around and twisted together. works just fine.

now youll probably run into this situation like i did. easy quick fix. bend or cut off the part close to and 2-3" either way from where its touching the alternator wire. your best bet is to bent it so if the motor does shift forward there wont be a sharp edge to cut the wire. whatever you do, do not push it towards the fan blade or it will make a lot of noise when the fans turn on or stop the fan from moving altogether.
